Ernst Pepping (1901–1981) is regarded as one of the most important contemporary Protestant church musicians and composers. Sacred choral works as well as some compositions for voice and piano form the central focus of his compositional output. The song book is divided into four parts and contains a total of 12 pieces set to texts by Paul Gerhardt, whom Pepping admired greatly.<br>
