Ernst Pepping (1901–1981) is regarded as one of the most important contemporary Protestant church musicians and composers. In addition to the sacred choral works which are central to his compositions, he also wrote secular vocal works. The “Haus- und Trostbuch” contains a total of 42 songs and was published in four parts. Pepping regarded these works, the title of which literally translates to “songs for home and comfort”, as the peak of his compositional oeuvre.
