This edition is based on the first edition of Duport’s etudes for Violoncello. Therefore, it corresponds to the original text and freed it from the many additions made by editors of later editions in the last two-hundred years.
Editor Martin Rummel modernised fingering and bowing markings to be suiteable for today’s performing practice. His edition presents the etudes in Duport’s original order and, additionally, includes a separate part for a second Cello ad libitum.
Like other of Rummel’s Bärenreiter editions of Popper’s works (BA06978 and BA06979) this edition also includes a brochure with a commentary on the performance of the individual etudes and the transfer of its technical challenges to other standard works of cello literature.
