Vincenzo Ruffo (1510–1587), one of the most versatile North-Italian composers of the 16th century, presented in 1564 with his “Capricci in misica” the first collections of instrumental works using the title “Capriccio”. The imaginative titles to the individual pieces correspond to their varied and inventive musical character. The work in this selected edition can be performed with recorders, viols or Renaissance instruments.
