Dvorak's first surviving work for this combination of instruments (the previous two compositions are missing) dates from 1875 and documents the rapid development of the composer's talent. The manuscript score of Piano Trio in B flat major clearly shows that the work was done with a sense of urgency, the ideas pouring out more quickly than he was able to write them down. Dvorak was not satisfied with the first draft and, before it was published by the Berlin-based firm Schlesinger (1880), he made a number of revisions to the score. Our edition is based on Schlesinger's publication and involved careful comparison with the autograph. This title is part of the first Complete Critical Edition of Works by Antonin Dvorak.
