Before his departure for America, Dvorak organised a lengthy concert tour by way of a farewell gesture. Rondo in G minor for Violoncello and Piano was written for this occasion for the composer's colleague from the Prague Conservatoire, professor Hanus Wihan. The piece is full of Dvorak's typical charm, where the minor key in the outer movements reflects the sense of melancholy preceding a journey to far-flung regions of the world. This title is part of the first Complete Critical Edition of Works by Antonin Dvorak.
