Interest in Dvorak's writing prompted his publisher Fritz Simrock to request a new work from him, this time shorter and, where possible, again of a &quot;Slavonic&quot; nature. This commission gave rise to Mazurka in E minor for violin and piano. The work has become a favourite virtuoso concert piece.
