This work which, together with the String Quartet in F major, was written during the summer holidays of 1893 in Spillville, is one of the products of Dvorak's sojourn in America. Like the other works from this period, the Quintet in E flat major is also influenced by American musical idioms, pentatonics and negro folklore. This title is part of the first Complete Critical Edition of Works by Antonin Dvorak.
