Jan Ladislav Dusík (1760–1812) is an important representative of Czech musical emigration at the turn of the 18th and 19th century in England and France. The fourth volume of his piano sonatas consists of sonatas Nos. 24–29. All of these are works of the last period of the composer’s life after the year 1800. The greatest work among them is Sonata in F-sharp minor Op. 61 “Élégie harmonique”, which was composed as a tombeau commemorating a friend of the composer who died in one of the battles of the Napoleonic wars at Saalfeld. The publication is part of the Musica Antiqua Bohemica series, which contains the complete edition of the composer’s sonatas in several volumes. The extensive Preface and Editor’s Notes (Czech, German, English) are by Jan Racek and V. J. Sýkora.
