Apart from a few sheets of harmony assignments, the only practice piece of Antonín Dvorák to survive is his final work, titled Compositionsversuche in Präludien und Fugen, with which he completed his theoretical studies at the Prague Organ School in 1859. There is no doubt that the composition is a student’s one, of good technical quality, but stunted by its purpose. It is, however, without a doubt an important document for understanding the circumstances and influences that affected the composer’s coming of age. The publication includes a Preface and Editor’s Notes, and is part of the first Complete Edition of the Works of Antonín Dvorák.
