The publication of the composition Taste of Burnt Shadows Op.14 for solo guitar by a young Czech composer, Martin Hybler, is this publisher's contribution towards the enlargement of contemporary Czech guitar repertory. The piece was written in autumn 1999 as intimate testimony of the composer's faith in the life cycle and its inherent transient nature. The composition consists of seven short movements, each of which depicts another angle, each being a kind of variation on the already-mentioned non-musical theme. The nature of the music is static to meditative with the exception of the fifth movement, in which two elements are contrasted: sforzato chord strokes against an ostinato motion sounded in soft dynamics and pizzicato, which represent the inner struggle with the unstoppable progress of time.

The composition is typical for its non-standard system of scoring guitar music as well as for the use of modern effects (e.g. slide) and thus represents a suitable concert piece for technically and musically advanced players.
