In the 150-year history of the trio sonata the cycle of Jan Dismas Zelenka (1679-1745) stands out as among the most striking and unusual of its kind. Written in 1721-22, these works are extreme both in their length and their technical demands, combining ingenious formal designs with breath-taking virtuosity. By exploiting recent musicological findings, these performing editions also satisfy the demands of scholarship.<br>
